Jail token iPhone 3G - does it just need unlocking now?

Hi everyone apologies for the auto correct mistake in the title! I'm new here and just figuring out how to use jailbroken phones..
I bought a second hand jailbroken and unlocked phone yesterday which had been restored. as soon as I connected it to iTunes it said it could not sync and needs to restore - which it wouldn't let me do.
So here's the details :

Plugged in to computer
Phone went into restore mode - couldn't do anything with it
iTunes error 2003 can't sync or update
iTunes recommends restore
Tried different USB port - starts to sync but as jail broken needs further software
Can't restore Error 1015
Dfu mode
tinyumbrella 'exit restore mode'
Phone stuck on emergency calls only and not recognising sim - but has signal there and at least it starts up now!

Does it Just Need unlocking now? I hope that's all that's wrong. I'm pretty proud to have got this far as a beginner!

It wouldn't need more software due to a jailbreak.

If I had to guess, I'd say you're on the right track. There's a thread on the first page talking about unlocking a 3G. It should help you out
