So what is the best way to jailbreak?

Now, I'm new to this and want to jailbreak my iphone 3gs. I'll be going to the middle of nowhere and need my phone to act as a mobile hotspot for internet. I learned jailbreaking could do this. Many sites tell me to download redsn0w or evasi0n but when I download and try to active them, I get the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access this file". I dont know what to do past this. Is this problem common? I cant find anyone online with the same trouble.

Edit: It's a iphone 3gs with 6.1.3

But it doesnt work. They wont activate for me on my computer.


EDIT: Would a mobile hotspot using the phone work with a place with a regular signal instead of a 3g one?
