Need advice for video out to TV for emulators

I see there are a few different options for tv out apps as well as cables. Main use would be for snes,nes emulators. Should I go for the official apple cable or can I get something cheaper? Also is the TVout app good enough for these apps?

I have the official Apple cable. It always seems like thier hardware works better than some third party stuff to me. I don't do any sort of game emulation though so others could help out there.
