Unlocked 5.0.1, how to upgrade?

I unlocked my 3GS on iOS 5.0.1. I had to install the iPad Baseband 6.15.00.

Now I am looking to upgrade to 5.1.1 while keeping the unlock. However, before upgrading, is there anything I should know? Can I use standard upgrade methods, then jailbreak/unlock from there? Or do I need to install custom 5.1.1?

I have read numerous how-tos, but none specifically list my situation - obviously I don't want to do something silly and brick my phone.

If your on iPad baseband you have to have a custom 5.1.1 or your phone will stick at apple logo .. .. You can create it using redsnow then update it using shift restore re jailbreak and unlock with ultrasnow fixer and the install ultrasnow
