Carrier unlock?

I want to unlock my iPhone 4 so I can use it when I'm abroad.
I am JB on 4.3.5 redSn0w tethered.

I've heard of Gevey, but that costs $70...

I can do a carrier unlock for ?15 only.
Is that basically the same thing? Will restoring, or JBing void the carrier unlock?

If not, why do people opt for a $70 Gevey sim instead of carrier unlock?

Carrier unlock would be the way to go. It's an internal modification (not replaced by software updates afaik) and would be the most stable.

You can buy geveys for $10... I have 2 geveys
Gevey supreme plus $10
Gevey ultra $30.
I find the supreme (replica/fake ) work better than the real ones. eBay has them cheap
Prices are in cad / usd
