I am running RedSn0w R14. I'm trying to go back to a pure state, but when I restore in iTunes, I get an error 3194. I did make a copy of 4.3.2 using TinyUmbrella. How in the world can I get back to a pure install and 4.3.3?

Thanks,

Rob

Been there!

Error 3194 has to do with TinyUmbrella blocking access to Apple's servers. You have to go to your hosts file, and delete 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com.

On my computer (Windows 7), the hosts file is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open it in notepad, remove the line, and save it in the same format as the hosts file. Don't save it as a text file.

Error 21 is the same thing. You get an error 21 when it can't update the firmware. It can't update the firmware if it can't verify the update with Apple.. but after you fix the hosts file, you should be good to go.

You can also just unclick the edit hosts option in Tiny Umbrella instead of manually editing the hosts file.

I shut down tinyumbrella, removed any reference to gs.apple.com from my host file (not saved as a text file), tried to restore via itunes and now it says iphone software update server is unavailable or temp down.

Did I miss something?

Thanks,

Rob

My host file gs references

#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Should I get rid of both?

Thanks,

Rob

Yes, get rid of both of those. Get rid of anything with an apple domain in your hosts file. If you are blocking access to Apple servers, everything will go to sh!t.

Fixed

thank you all very much for your help. I removed any reference to gs.apple.com...nothing worked. I rebooted my laptop, verified the host file, and I'm now running pure again.

Again....thanks to all who helped.

Because of my struggle last night to go from jb 4.3.2 to pure 4.3.3 in order to jb again, I'm not sure I need that headache again if I have to un-jb once more.
