Hi guys, I got this screen when I tried to jailbreak my friend's 3GS, and I didn't continue because I didn't want to brick his iPhone..

I read what it said, but I don't understand. The last two digits (4th and 5th) were 04, so I'm assuming, according to the directions, that this means it was made the 4th month of 2010? can someone help me out?

Since the problem occurs with 40 and up while the phone is 04 I would say it's on the old bootrom. In any case if you read the bottom all you have to do to restore the phone if it doesn't work is restore the official firmware and restore from last backup. So I would say you are good to go just do a backup and sync before you start.

I got my 3GS in June 2010 at the same time the iPhone 4 was released, Yes I was cheap and got the discounted 3GS when the IP4 came out. My serial number has 22 as the 4th and 5th digits. My 3rd digit is a 0. I have always found the date to be confusing as that would make my phone over a year old when I bought it if you assumed an 2009 date and I do believe the OS was current when it came out of the box so that would lead me to believe it was a newer 3GS and that would make it the 22nd week of 2010 maybe? A 3GS manufactured in Jan 2010 wouldn't be a 53 would it?

Anyways I answered Yes to newer model question when I JB it for 4.3.2 with Redsn0w and had no issues.
