Significant progress buy smart guys, few minutes ago Chronic dev-team -the team behind Greenpois0n- has just presented us a good progress on untethering jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, which means that we are very near to get the new Greenpois0n RC5 to have an untethered jailbreak for all iOS devices.

Till now, no one of the Chronic dev-team members has announce any ETA for Greenpois0n RC5, but all I have to say now, thanks Chronic dev-team for the hard work. As usual I will update you once more information comes-in.

Great news, but I somehow feel all this wait so close to the release of 4.3, It kind of feels like whats the point now... They may as well save it for 4.3 now.

I can just picture hoards of people all over ios driven forums hounding the Dev team for a JB for 4.3 as soon as apple drops it...

Well musclenerd has tweeted that they have ported the Monte to work with the 4.1 shsh so you can untether 4.2.1. They are also working on porting it to 4.3. Chronic may not have to use their exploit.

I dont even get excited for these announcements anymore. It seems like there is always an article about how close so and so is to completing the JB but thats all we ever hear.

So what is a Monte? I have an IP4 jailbroken with greenpoison on 4.1, but I have 4.2b3 blob saved according to Cydia homepage. Can I upgrade to 4.2 and then re-jailbreak untethered? If so, how? And what do I use to do it? Please help.

As far as I know the "monte" is a way to jailbreak using a lower iOS version up until the end of the process, then it loads the current OS. Example, jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 untethered by using 4.1 SHSH blobs for the bulk of the jailbreak process until the very end when it continues with 4.2.1. Thats at least what I got from it. Its a way to keep a jailbreak going without burning a new exploit.

So with this "Monte", does that mean I can now upgrade to 4.2 from 4.1 and then re-jailbreak untethered? I do have a 4.2b3 shah blob saved on Cydia homepage. Please advise, cause I am now confused as to what this "Monte" announcement means and what it means for me NOW.

The difference this time is that we have actual video evidence of it. Rather than just an article or twitter post about how close it is.
