I might have to go to apple to have my phone replaced because it keeps letting my face hang up calls. But if they replace it, I assume I will get one with the latest baseband. Can this be unlocked with ultraslow or something else?

No, the latest baseband cannot be unlocked at the present time, but I suspect a new unlock will be rolled out shortly after 4.2...

I was wondering this too. I have the iPhone 4. I got in the first week of its release. Its jailbroken and I'm loving it of course. I was thinking that if someone got their phone with 4.1 installed that installing 4.0 would change the baseband to what it was under that version of the OS. Did I just learn that it doesn't work that way?

There is no current method of downgrading baseband firmware. Once you are on one, you can only upgrade.
