Question about upgrading JB 3GS to iOS4

I jailbroke my 3GS with Spirit but Im not sure what the safest way to upgrade to iOS4 is.

Do I need to restore my phone default settings in iTunes before I upgrade to iOS4 and then wait for a new JB or will upgrading simply overwrite my current OS?

Just want to make sure that I dont brick the phone or cause any issues.

Updating will simply overwrite your current OS. Jailbreak gone, iOS4 in its place.

I did it last night, and later today I'm probably going to be doing a clean install...none of my notifications are working.

However you might also want to wait until after iOS 4 is out and there is a JB for it and then you will know the process. If the current OS is working for you why do you want to upgrade so badly?

I went from Spirit JB to iOS 4 and i had data issues. I restored and then it worked fine. I would restore to factory before you load iOS4

I went from Spirit JB to 4.0 as well with no problems. I never restore, Update works fine for me every time.
