    Unless you were previously jailbroken and have saved your shsh on Cydia it cannot be done.

    Ok my previous Iphone was jailbroken but it broke so I bought a 3gs and updated on my computer with iTunes. When I updated it my carrier stayed the same when I jailbroke it

    So, you have a NEW 3GS that has never been jailbroken and it is running OS 3.1.3? I take it you are NOT on a carrier that officially supports the iPhone ( ie AT&T )?

    If the above is true:
    1) You still cannot jailbreak
    2) You cannot unlock either, and cannot use your phone on your unofficial network until a new unlock is found.
