Upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1.2, NOT 3.1.3 possible?

My daughter has a 3G (not a 3Gs) with 3.0 firmware and I'd like to upgrade it to 3.1.2 to get the remote lock feature in "Find My iPhone" on MobileMe . . . I DO NOT want to upgrade it to 3.1.3 since we may be selling it at some point in the near future and I want to preserve the JB and unlock capability.

So, is this possible? I've done searches but all be buzz is about DOWNGRADING (or whatever it's called) to 3.1.2, not what I need.

Thank you.

u can only upgrade/downgrade to 3.1.2 if u have a ecid in cydia for it (go to cydia if u see at the top of the home page "This device has SHSHs for OS: (OS list, if there is 3.1.2 then u can)"

A 3G does not require SHSH files via Cydia. You should be able to find a copy of the firmware and use shift+restore or command+restore to restore the firmware to the 3G.

Yup. SHSH/ECID are 3G specific. One of the new 'measures' Apple took upon release to try to hinder jailbreaking.

Hey kgvickers, were you able to get this upgrade to work properly? I am in the exact same boat, looking to upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1.2 on a 3G phone. My phone is currently unlocked and jailbroken and I want it to remain that way so I haven't upgraded yet. Please let us know if you were able to successfully do this and keep the JB and unlock or what issues you ran into. Thanks in advance.
