i am relatively new to this so pls forgive me if this is answered elsewhere.
I have: iPhone 3g version 3.0.1 with baseband 04.26.08. and using Windows
I want to upgrade to 3.1.2 so that I can use Blackra1n to jailbreak.
How do i do it?

Many thanks for your help -

(i posted this is the general iPhone help section but perhaps here is more appropriate...)

don't do it. You're likely to open up yourself to more problems. Have you not seen all the posts with people losing their jailbreak and unlocks. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

But if he still chooses to do this however, he can do so using PwnageTool on the Mac. It will preserve his 4.26 baseband while upgrading his OS.

I also believe that his phone is one of the few that will be able to this without causing problems.

OP, what are you using to unlock? Ultrasn0w?

Hi there - thanks for getting back to me -
currently not jailbroken. but i thought that blackra1n had solved the 3.1.2 completely...?
to be honest i dont mind sticking with 3.0.1 if i can work out how to easily jailbreak that on a Windows pc with iphone3g (not 3gs) - there are a lot of conflicting advices on it and I cant work out what the best approach is... i was considering trying redsn0w 0.8 but not sure if I have to have done something else first...?
thanks for your advice on this -
