I've seen a lot of posts saying the old 3GS iPhones can be jailbroken, but the new ones (November '09 and on) can't (unless tethered)... Mine is right on the edge, but I don't know if it's an early or late model.

I've searched the forums but haven't found a way to tell what version my iPhone is... can somebody give me instructions, or point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks!

Look at 4th and 5th number on your SN. If its 40+ then you have the new 3gs

Cool, looks like I'm good then... is that the 'week' designation I've heard of then... '36' = week 36?

    Thanks.

    That's my understanding. Don't upgrade to 3.1.3. It's not JB-able yet. Stick with 3.1.2.

Use this link and then enter your serial #. The results you will get will be in English. You'll know for sure then.
