Jailbreak first or upgrade firmware first

I want to jailbreak and unlock my phone. It's on AT&T carrier. Now please guide me what to do first?
Shall I Jailbreak & unlock first or
Upgrade the firmware first?

Somebody told me that its better to get firmware updated. So just thinking to upgrade it first and then jailbreak.

Can I jailbreak the phone after jailbreaking & unlocking?

I am new to iphone. Please guide me what to do?

Upgrade the firmware. Otherwise it might not work.

I say it all depends on what OS your phone has on it now, what version of the iPhone you have and how you want to jailbreak it.

Can you please tell in detail like up to what firmware we should jailbreak and what firmwares should be upgraded first before jailbreaking?
