Question on Root Password and SSH

If I jailbreak but do not install Open SSH, is my iphone still in jeopardy? Do you need to change password if you don't install Open SSH? Thanks.

need to? not so much. highly recommended though.

the main security issue is for those who install SSH and leave it running. then throw in the fact that they have neglected to change their root/mobile passwords, now that's a problem.
