I took the plunge and decided to jailnbrake: 3Gs 3.0, WIN XP. As I was still on iTunes 8.2 I decided to use purplera1n. My iPhone went into recovery mode (USB cablw screen) and purplera1n kept crashing (even though Apple mobile device service was running).
Then I upgraded to the latest iTunes version and tried with redsnow, but iTunes won't let me restore with the downloaded ipsw file (iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw).
It looks like iTunes is connecting to the apple server to verify the install: "The Iphone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."
I have not upgraded to 3.1. through iTunes sofar ...
What now?
