I am currently with T-Mobile and I have a few questions. Can I get an IPhone and unlock it myself to use it with my T-Mobile service? Will I be able to use all Apps and options available on the IPhone. Will I be able to use my Internet service plan that I have with them on an IPhone without any problems? Thanks in advance.

You can unlock it yourself if its on any firmware besides 3.1. 3G will not work on a unlocked iPhone.

I can not unlock it if I updated to the latest software?

I don't need 3G speed, however are you saying that I will not be able to use my internet service at all on it?

You can use the internet but only at 2G speeds.

So, should I get an IPhone that has 3.1 I can restore older software and then unlock it to use on T-Mobile?

You cannot downgrade 3.1. Would be best to try and get a iPhone on 3.0/3.0.1 or older.

3g has nothing to do with the phone being unlocked. The iphone doesn't use the same 3g bands as T-mobile US uses, that's why you can't get 3g.

Ok and using a iPhone on T-Mobile means it's unlocked right? The OP said
Will I be able to use all Apps and options available on the IPhone
And I said you will not be able to use 3G.

I am with TMo and have used both the 2G and the 3G models with them.
Like the OP said, with the 3G, you just disable the 3G mode.
You need to get the correct Smartphone data plan, it's $25.

If you need any help seting up the phone with TMo, just call Cust Service and ask for their PDA Support. They have CSR's who specifically support the iPhone. The ironic thing is that they are way more friendly and helpful than any ATT rep will ever be and it's not even their phone. LOL
