Non-iPhone Related - Question about 8GB iPod Touch

Ok, here's the deal. A relative of mine gave me their ole 8GB iPod touch. They apparently upgraded.

I tried to reset it to brand new from "Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings".

It asks me for a passcode. I spoke to my cousin, and they don't remember it.

That means unless I reset it, I can't use it for music or videos, jailbreak it, NOTHING.

I was thinking about doing a DFU restore, but a) I don't know how to do that on an iPod and b) I'm not sure if it will work.

Can anyone offer any guidance or assistance on this? I'd really appreciate it.

And it seems that I've fixed my problem. I just downloaded the iPod Touch 2G firmware to OS 3.0, restored it, and now it syncs flawlessly.
