    hi im manshood.i got an iphone 2g with firmware 2.2.1 on it.i want to upgrade it to 3.0.i dont have a fast internet connection.i downloaded some files like iphone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw,redsn0w,BL 3.9,BL 4.6 from iclarified.is it possible to update the firmware without using iTunes update option.what is the need of restore option in the iTunes.do i can update the firmware by using restore option.please help me..............

    If you are on Mac, press the Alt key while you click restore, it will let you manually choose a firmware package. On windows I think it is CTRL.

    Open iTunes, connect your iPhone. Then whilst holding down the CTRL key, click 'Restore'. This should bring up a window for you to browse and find your 3.0 IPSW file. Choose this and the iPhone will begin restoring using the new software.

    Just make sure you sync before you begin, just so your contacts etc are backed up.

    Yes, but he also said that he wants to upgrade his firmware WITHOUT using iTunes, so it doesn't matter what button combinations it is, because he doesn't want to use iTunes TO restore the firmware..

    Thanx bro,one more doubt in which mode I have to connect my iPhone for restoring in iTunes.in normal mode(switch on condition) or in DFU mode.

    Well, he doesn't really have a choice in the matter -- to update your firmware, you HAVE to use iTunes.
