I am currently running 2.2.1 Jailbroken. I am planning to Jailbreak with Redsn0w later today.

Before I begin are there any dangers with going from Jailbroken 2.2.1 to Jailbroken 3.0?

I ask because most of the youtube vids seem to show going from clean un-jailbroken firmware to Jailbroken 3.0.

Thanks in advance dewds!

Before you start, first restore your iPhone using iTunes and set it up as a new phone. Then you're good to go for jailbreaking.

Why do you have to do that? I read about many users who have just updated their firmware, rather than restoring it and it worked fine.

1) You just lost about 500MB of disk space on your iPhone

2) It might work, it might be flaky later... the most reliable way to jailbreak an iPhone is to start from a fresh restore.

The only reason I'm hesitant to do a fresh restore is that I'll lose all my settings, SMS's, contacts, etc.

Does "restoring" keep the settings, SMS's, contacts, etc. just like "updating" would??
