Please Help Jailbreak????

Ok so ive had my iPhone for about a year and a half, its no longer under warranty and it has many problems. I have found that its just not worth it to continue to use as a phone. Therefore my question to you is can I switch away from my iPhone but still continue to use it as a iPod and access the games on it. My friend has a Blackberry he is getting rid of and I'd really just like to switch to that for now. I'm guessing I'll have to jailbreak my iPhone but not exactly sure what to do. I am currently running 2.2 and it is a 1G iPhone. Please help! thank you
