2.2, Hacked Sim, Locked Out of my iPhone!

Help! I have the 16gb iPhone 3G and I've been using an unofficial SIM with a piggy back circuit with no problems, until now, when I updated to software 2.2, and the iPhone connected to the iTunes store, and locked me "out of service" when the iPhone has the SIM card inserted. I've tried restoring the iPhone, but now it asks to be activated using a legal SIM card without a PIN. How can I restore my iPhone to version 2.1? Is there any other way of solving this issue? The iPhone is vital to my day-to-day work, and any help will be greatly appreciated,
