Please help with iTunes on External HD for new MBP!!!

Hello all! Desperately need help. I have bought a used MBP 15" and am using my 30,000+ songs for iTunes on a LaCie 500GB external HD. I am a DJ and really need to get this HD talking to my new MBP. I try to do the OPTION and sign on iTunes thing, but when I try to choose a library, it says "An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder 'LaCie 500GB. Please choose a different folder.'" Basically, I just want to use the external HD on the new computer as my iTunes library storage. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Old MBP:
2008 MBP 15"
Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB Ram
250 HD
OS Snow Leopard
iTunes version 11.4

New MBP:
Mid 2010 15"
2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
8GB RAM
500GB HD
OS Yosemite
iTunes version 12.5.3

Did you follow the steps found via the below link to move your iTunes library over to the external drive?

Hey Just_Me_D! Thanks for getting back to me. So I seem to have done all these things, but not all the songs that are in the External are showing up. It seems just the songs I have downloaded from iTunes are showing up in iTunes, and again, they're still stuck in iCloud... Wondering what I'm doing wrong?

Oh and sorry, also, the songs are already on the External HD (the LaCie). These songs weren't in my MacBook Pro's hard drive.
