Trying to convert an iTunes file to an mp3?

trying to convert an itunes file to an mp3?

Have followed instructions from apple on how to do this but it keeps converting to an AAC file? is this the same as an MP3? and also, I can't find it once it has been converted? where would I look?
would appreciate any help! thanks muchly

How do you know it's converting to AAC if you can't find it afterwards to verify? Anyway, if you've followed the instructions found via the following link, your converted file will appear in the same section that the original is located.
