I'm brand new to the Apple world, and I haven't (yet) found a clear answer to this question:

What is the difference between the iTunes App Store and the App Store that I access by tapping on the blue App Store icon on my iPad Mini 4? Are they actually the same?

    Welcome to iMore.

    Hope this info help you.

iTunes - desktop/laptop program for downloading media and mobile apps
iTunes Store - mobile app for downloading media
App Store - mobile app for downloading iOS apps and games
Mac App Store - Mac OS program for downloading apps and games for your Mac OS device(s)

So... is iTunes and App Store the same? From a platform-specific perspective, no. From a functional perspective, yes.

    Thanks for replying.

In my Windows desktop version of iTunes I have the App Store, which shows apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

This is the "iTunes" that you described above - correct?

"iTunes Store" is a mobile app.

I see Apple is in competition with Microsoft over confusing names. ;-)

Yes, iTunes Store is a mobile app.

And yes MS does not have the market cornered on confusion.

    Thanks.
The App Store on your iPad is the same App Store on the iPhone.
And there's also an iTunes Store on iPad and iPhone for purchasing music, movies, books and etc.
