Why is my iPhone not able to back up in iTunes as redirecting it to photo app?

iphone not able to back up in itunes as redirecting it to photo app

My iphone 5s is opening in the photo app on windows 8 when i plug it into to itunes program to back it up. It makes the chime but the phone icon does not show up, and it just goes to the photo app.Has anyone got ideas as i need to back my phone up before I get the new 6plus

First, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed and Windows updated. Then restart your computer.

If that does not work, you could use iCloud to back up your device. . . . Allyson has a great article regarding this option:
