Lost Ability to connect iPhone 4S to iTunes

Since I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1.2 via iTunes I've lost the ability to use my iPhone with iTunes, as I keep getting the iPhone setup screen everytime I connect to iTunes, this means that I'm unable to sync across my own Ringtones.

Also I've lost to purchased Ringtones after doing the update via iTunes.

How do I fix this iPhone connection to iTunes and restore my lost purchased Ringtones. I did a full iTunes backup prior to the update, but restoring the backup didn't restore my Ringtones or fix the iTunes connection problem?
