Why am I being ripped off by Apple???

Hey folks,

Just wondered if you guys could explain something to me???

I really like the idea of owning a box set of a tv series (season if you're in the US!!) be it on physical DVD or on iTunes.

But what I want to know, is why is there such a huge difference in price between the US and the UK when it comes to items on iTunes?

For example I'm looking at say, buying the latest season of How I Met Your Mother, which on the US store, would cost me $29.99 (£18.21) but if I go to pick it up in the UK store it's a disgusting $74.69 (£45.36) and that's only in SD, in HD it would cost me $98.40 (£59.76).

The same goes for The Big Bang Theory.

Can anyone explain to me why it costs more than double what it costs in the US, and 3 times the cost of buying it on DVD?

It's sod's law, but it always seems to be some of my favourite shows on TV. I'd love to carry them round on my iPad and iPhone, but can't, because Apple / iTunes just seem to have messed up their pricing structure.

Also, where can I post this so I get a mail back from Steve with his explanation of it all??

Price difference is likely due to copyrights, licensing - and most likely taxes for importing entertainment programming from outside the UK :D

lol seriously.... taxes.... over double the price....

sure, i'll go along with a little extra because of it... but not over double the cost :)

There is a price difference between the US and Canada too.

Most likely, it's the licensing rights that are driving up the costs....

Your money is worth more than ours lol. I honestly don't know why it would be THAT much of an increase, I would say if you have friends in the states ask them to purchase and send you items in the mail :)

Nothing to do with Apple. Everything to do with licensing costs.
