Turn off autosync in iTunes

Is there a way to do this? I have searched the forums and can't come up with anything.

With your phone plugged in to the computer, In iTunes, under Devices, select your phone, then in what is usually the library window on the 'settings' screen, hit "custom sync" instead of automatic.

Also, I think under preferences in iTunes you can select the devices tab and uncheck the box that says "automatically sync" or something to that effect. That way if you have multiple devices it covers them all.
