Duplicated Mobile applications in iTunes folder. .

I just noticed my applications blew out to 3.2GB
It wasn't that large yesterday. So I checked the file in iTunes.
Sure enough it was 3.2GB with so many duplicated it's not funny.
Do I need the duplicates?? I assume they are from the updates.
When updated from app store, they must install a complete version?

I have deleted a few dplicates without killing the application or it's data.
Why is it doing this and why is the entire folder size (3.2GB with duplicates)
the same on the iPhone. Surely the duplicates didnt upload as well.

Can anyone help.
