After 2 years of using the iPhone I suspect that I am like many other users. I've downloaded apps that for one reason or another proved to be useless or not for me. So I have lots of apps showing in iTunes that are no longer installed on my iPhone. Is there an easy way to generate a list so that I may quickly dump the unused apps? I'm eligible for an upgrade next week so it's time to get my iTunes desktop in order to make a smoother transition.

Unfortunately there is not. You just have go through your app library in iTunes and purge the ones you don't want. I find it's easier to just go into the folder where the files are stored and move them to the recycle bin. If you do accidentially delete one that you have on your iPhone and like you can download paid apps again for free.
