Can battery health be manipulated? Can you increase the battery health using software or something?

You actually can't. Battery health is dictated by the chemistry aging. The only way to "manipulate" the battery health is to replace the battery :)

That's like trying to manipulate a 4 year car battery, so it gets 6 years. Just can't. The best you can do is stretch out the battery life with battery saving measures. It's all in what you do on your device, and how you have your settings set. And keep in mind Screen Brightness, Location Services, and Push Notifications are the big 3 battery users.

I use each charge cycle to its fullest by running it down to 10% from full charge instead of plugging it in when I go to bed

I’m not sure anymore if it’s bad for the battery to have it plugged in during the night.
Because my iPhone 12 Pro Max is still at 91% after two years. And I do use it a lot.

Bringing it down to 10% and charging it up fully is technically bad for lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries.

They tend to be happier in the 50-80% range. That’s why Optimized Charging stops charging around 80% for a prolonged period before topping up :)

Also, the way Apple has implemented their battery management software, it should cycle around each cell to level the wear more or less equally. Let’s say you discharge from 100% to 75% (e.g.: using up cells 1 and 2), then recharge to 100% . When you start discharging, it will use a different cell (e.g.: 3). It does the same when trickle charging :)

I've never used optimized charging, and I charge my 12 Pro Max up to 100%. And after 24 months, it's at 91% battery health. And I'm a heavy user.

While I use the Optimized Charging, I don’t prevent myself from discharging to 20% (meaning, it’s not reasonable, even if it is preferred).

I just replaced my battery two months ago, so battery health is still 100%

For the record: All the management systems continue working regardless of the Optimized Charging setting. It only affects the 80% hold that gets disabled ^.^

Op, I would check with an Apple Store.
I wouldn’t chance a non official battery for safety reasons.
