Re: How to transfer data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone 7

I followed along the excellent article when we received a new iPhone7 to replace a trusty iPhone 5 (memory constraints became a nuisance). I always head to iMore for advice.

One thing that you could mention is that the new iPhone should be at the same or newer OS version as the older one. I may have missed it. The new phone was delivered with an older OS10. So when I went to restore from backup I received the cryptic software too old error message, which confused me for about 30 minutes. My initial reaction was the old iPhone 5 software was too old and couldn't be used.... well I know I should have known better... Just suggesting a little reminder up front to turn the new phone on and update its software before trying to restore.

Also I didn't have to swap sims on the ATT phone. I activated it from the ATT activation page.
