It showed up for me in south side of Chicago and some of the south subs. Didn’t see any incredible speeds. Although I think it drained my battery more....

I’m pretty sure there’s no difference between 5GE and LTE, except the label.

Just looked on my phone and I’m connected to 5GE up top. Normally I’m connected to LTE but I guess they started lighting up the Dallas area. Anyone else getting this? I would post pics but I don’t know how
5GE is nothing more then carrier aggregation. Other carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile have done it for a long time now. AT&T is just pretending it is something special.

I have noticed no difference when my phone says 5G e then when it shows LTE and there is no difference. I have an AT&T prepaid account and my phone shows this fake 5G e thing all the time.

I only had the 5Ge when I was traveling through Ybor city. Otherwise it shows LTE as it should

Because 5G is millimeter wave-based, it is short range and heavily affected by obstructions (even foliage) and will require a lot of transmission antennas to provide coverage. It's going to be some time before it's prevalent in even large urban areas. Outlying areas - forget it.

Regardless of whether my XS is faster when in 5GE than LTE (and shows 5GE 90% of the time) overall I feel like my service is far worse with the latest iOS update and on AT&T now with more places of no service or dropped calls. May be a total coincidence, who knows. So to me speed capability is irrelevant if the service availability overall has weakened.

No iphone has 5G capable hardware. And probably won't for another 1-2 years.
I have a true 5G phone (S10 5G on Verizon) and there's only a few places in the country it works. Where it does, it's quite fast. (over 1Gbps download). Uploads still LTE speeds though.

I have 5Ge on AT&T but it is just a label and not really 5G speeds

I haven't see 5GE at all, and I was looking at Verizon briefly, not fo the 5G but their coverage is better where we are looking to build our house. So if I have 2 phones today with AT&T with my 65GB data plan and I go to Verizon with 2 phones and get "unlimited" it will cost me $200 a month. It's a joke for those who don't have 4 lines, I have 2 phones, watch and tablet but the last 2 don't count and would push my cost up.

I see it constantly now and it really just annoys me because all they’ve done is replace LtE with 5Ge. Its no faster and doesn’t mean anything.

I think this article sums it up pretty well.

-5GE is faster than standard 4G LTE.

-However, it’s no faster than the Advanced LTE that all major carriers are currently using in many if not most areas.

-Therefore, using the name 5GE probably doesn’t make any sense, rather AT&T could have used LTE PRO or something else to recognize improvements without dangling “5G” as PART of the name.

***Personally, while I see small improvement at best in speed, my overall coverage has worsened on AT&T but that’s likely coincidental***
