Hello everyone. I will be upgrading to the iPhone XR 256 GB Black from my iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB Jet Black within a few weeks. I’m on AT&T which has been rolling out the 5Ge network (fake 5G which is in fact LTE advanced). The city I live in has support for it (Washington, DC).

I updated to iOS 12.2 yesterday and supposedly the iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, X, 8 Plus, and 8 have support for 5Ge according to AT&T’s website.

For those of you who are on AT&T and have updated to iOS 12.2 can you take a screenshot to verify that you see 5Ge in the status bar? The reason I want to make sure of this is that the XR has 2x2 MIMO support while the XS Max and XS have 4x4 MIMO.

Ok, I’m guessing that in my city which is covered by LTE it will go between showing LTE and 5Ge.

I have noticed that in the past, depending upon where I am, that coverage fluctuates between LTE and 4G. I'll keep an eye on it, and when we get 5Ge, I'll report back. But since I'm not in a major metro area, it will probably be awhile.

Ok. Maybe other AT&T iPhone XR owners on here have this happening since they’ve updated to iOS 12.2.

iPhone XR and AT&T 5Ge

I am not seeing anything other than LTE yet on my iPhone XR and I did the update to iOS 12.2 yesterday evening. Business as usual, for the most part and we have strong LTE here all over. The iPhone XR has a different cell radio than the iPhone XS and XS Max, if that makes any difference.

I did have to re-set up Wi-Fi Calling on my iPad and Watch.

I must edit my earlier comment! We do have 5Ge here.

On AT&T’s 5G website they have a list of all the cities that have different levels of 5G support.

Actually, I have an 8 Plus. And it's interesting, that as I drive around town... my signal alternates between LTE and 5Ge.

I think this will happen with the XS MAX as well for me. My city has 5Ge support but no 5G yet. I’ll be traveling to Upstate NY next week where the town I’m staying in only has LTE and then I’m going to NYC which has both 5Ge and 5G support. Then at the end of the month I’m going to Philadelphia for a weekend which has both 5Ge and 5G support.
