Does anyone know if I could schedule an appointment to replace my battery? I’m aware it’s $79. The reason I ask is because a few years ago I was told that they will only replace it if it’s defective, not if I free willingly want to pay to get it replaced.

Make an appointment and go to the Apple Store.
They’ll let you know what’s what and how’s how.

I can tell you for 100% sure that Apple will replace your battery for a fee even if the battery passes the diagnostics. I believe that it's limited to one time per phone.

    Thank you!
I just replaced mine earlier this evening. The battery on my X was at 85%. Be warned, my appointment was for 4:45-5:15. Apple insisted on running diagnostics, which required them to restore my phone to iOS 12.3 (I had been running iOS 13 beta 2). They then needed 1 1/2 hours to replace the battery. It was not an particularly efficient process.

Just finished checking the battery health on my iPhone X and it’s at 85% as well

Why did you decide to swap it out as I’m not noticing any real time slowdown or aggressive power drain. It’s not unboxing fresh but not concerning me at this time?

I just have the batteries swapped at 85% as a matter of course before I start having issues.

Makes sense I’m planning on keeping my X for one more cycle so I’ll probably be doing the same soon.

My GFs old 6s+ started to act up around 82% years ago and I don’t want that

Thanks for the info! Mines at 89%. I figured they would do a diagnostics test. I just feel I’ve been keeping my phone on low battery mode more frequently than not.

Not charging to 100% or using till 0% helps, but if you need an appointment you can do it right from the Apple support app.
