iPhone upgrade program question

My dad has one more month in At&t Installment can he join the iPhone upgrade program with him still having the remaining balance on At&t next ?

I did it last year and I had a huge remaining balance on At&t next and I still join the iPhone upgrade program and gave the at&t next phone to my mom.

Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program has nothing to do with your installment agreement with AT&T. That said, deactivating the old phone from the network will likely cause any remaining payments to come due immediately.
