Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
Yesterday my black slate iPhone X 64 which I have had since the official launch day, started going crazy. It started rebooting and would not stop, I tried shutting the device off and resetting it, but the reboots continued.
So, I made and appointment at the local Apple store genius bar and after the tech trying doing the same thing I did and then running some diagnostics, they ended up giving me a replacement unit, so all is good.
As I was getting my replacement and initializing the device in the store, a young man asked me if I wanted to trade my black slate for his silver model. He had just bought his a month prior and missed the 30 day exchange period, so we checked each others IMEI numbers and made sure both devices where clear and no bill was owned on them and made the switch.
Both of us where happy and the hour and a half I spent waiting for my turn at the genius bar was all for the better good. My device was replaced, I ended up with a silver model and the other person was happy, so all is good. Just thought I would share my experience with the folks on the forums.

Best reason to own an apple device they have stores to make repairs don’t have to wait for ups or fedex.

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
You’re brave!
I wish the other person doesn’t blacklist the phone on you.

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
You are brave, he got a brand new device. Check the cycle count of your battery with Coconut Battery. Hopefully, it shouldn’t be more than 10 to 15 at most.

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
That was very nice of you!

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
We did check with apple and both our devices where purchased at the Apple store and are paid in full, no worries. He actually had his original receipt and I emailed him a copy of mine, so all is good.

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
Did you have Applecare or did they replace it under the one year warranty?

I have Applecare, but I think this was under warranty. They didn’t charge me anything.

Are you able to transfer your Applecare to the phone you swapped the guy for?

I liked the space grey, I just like to change every so often. I wish they would come out with a limited edition X like a red or colbalt blue?

Sadly, all of those don’t protect someone against blacklisting.

This was my thoughts exactly when I read this. Not worth trading over color just for this reason alone unless you know the person.

As long as you have the receipt showing the device was paid in full and not financed thru Apple or a carrier, you won’t have any issues. It’s the ones that are financed that you have to worry about.

Excellent, sir, and I appreciate you sharing your experience with us. In the meantime, enjoy your new silver iPhone X. [emoji41]

Not saying he'll do it or trying to be a Negative Nancy but he always has the choice of just calling up Apple and canceling it to get a refund on his prorated amount.

That’s not exactly true. They could have carrier insurance on it. It’s reported stolen, your IMEI is screwed. If the receipt doesn’t have your name or tied to your CC, your screwed. Trust me. I know somebody who went through this.

I have traded many phones over the years and never had any issues. I had a good vibe about the person and we where all honest and upfront and I not worried at all.

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
In Australia you can get a new phone on contract from any Telco and sell it same day no problems, people upgrade contracts and are happy with the old phone so sell the new one.
Contract is with the Sim and person on account not the actual phone.
My current 2 year contract came with a iPhone 864GB which i sold and bought a X outright.
So you could swap phones with anyone as long as its not been stolen.

Re: Exchanged my iPhone X today, was going crazy
Sounds like a solid deal. Like the OP, i have made a hundred different kinds of trades and deals on phones. I usually never get to meet the person, let alone check all the details at an Apple store! Enjoy the Silver X!

I think they’ll exchange your unit for a refurbished one the first year under warranty, but I expect AppleCare to be a lot better program. I should check that out in detail; I have it on my 8 Plus.

It doesn’t bother me if it’s a refurbished unit or a new one, it’s still under warranty and that’s the most important part.
