I called a non-corporate T-Mobile store the other day and they asked if I was interested in the iPhone ecks (X). I told her no, but I was interested to know if they have cases for the 10. She didn't know it was supposed to be called the 10 not ecks.

I call it iPhone “Ten” because that’s what it’s supposed to be called (whether or not I agree with Apple’s bizarre naming scheme this year) but it’s crazy how many people refer to it as iPhone “Ex” including tech journalists and podcasters.

I had the same experience with a Verizon tech support specialist trying to work through an activation issue. I corrected her and she told me that everyone around her office had been referring to it as iPhone “Ex” for weeks. She had no idea!

Yeah. Similar to when macOS was OS X.

If they wanted it to be called “ten”, they should’ve named it “10”. Since they’ve never used Roman numerals in their naming convention before, it’s natural there will Be confusion.

And yes, I️ thought it was was OS (Ex) for years. I️ assumes the “X” was an acknowledgement of its Unix roots.

It will probably stick around and not change. Many people didn’t even know OSX was OS10 lol.

Had they really wanted people to call it the iPhone 10, they shouldn’t have named it the X. Everyone I️ know calls it X.

To me, the iPhone X is a classy phone. It’s $1000 + phone. Calling it 10 just sounds weird. Calling it the X sounds like it’s unique and special. Also, I can’t call it 10 since there is no iPhone 9. Just seems weird.
