I did the same thing. I had an iPhone 8 Plus and I was convinced I wasn't getting the iPhone X. But then on a whim, like always, I went to Best Buy on November 3rd an hour after the store opened and got a 256GB silver iPhone X. I have no regrets. It is definitely the best iPhone I have ever used.

Let us know when you get it!
The number of people I’ve seen on the forums who just happened to randomly walk into a store and leave with an X after having no intentions on getting one is funny. You guys just randomly walk into a store and spend $1200 often? Lol.

No worries, I said the same thing. "I'm content with my 7 Plus" I said. Then I got the 8 plus and said, "I'm content with my 8 plus" before getting the X. It happens

That’s just because you’re weak but haven’t accepted it yet. I knew I was getting an iPhone X before they even announced it.

I guess I got lucky then because battery life has been great and no issues with the screen.
    Same. Battery is great!

I randomly went into a Best Buy and spent $150 for the iPhone X, with the exchange of a 256GB iPhone 8 Plus in which I paid full retail price.

I have a few so far.
    • The first thing that stuck out to me: The body of this phone is small. Like, really small. Like "how do they fit a screen in this?" small. That was literally my first imporession out of the box.
    • Not X specific, but the fast setup between two device is super nice
    • FaceID setup was lightning fast. The feature has been lightning fast, but more on that later
    • This is a broken record around these parts, but the oddities in the screen do not bother me. They're fine. Would I prefer straight corners and a normal aspect ratio? Maybe, but not at the expense of FaceID/Bezelless design
    • The new gestures took a few attempts to become second nature, but now it's not a problem. The Home Bar helps, but now that I have it down, I wish I could disable it.
    • The battery life so far has been good, but like everyone has said so far, this is the spiritual successor to the 7, 8, not the plus size phones, so the battery is pretty stellar so far. Have to spend a little more time with it.
    • The camera is very, very good. I still maintain the Pixel 2 XL is a bit better for standard point and shoot, but for finess shots (various lighting modes, for example) and the 2x zoom, you really can't beat iPhone.
    • The actual color and lighting of the screen is truly incredible. Apple has nailed the presentation. I love True Tone
    • Blue shift is almost unnoticeable (coming from a Pixel 2 XL, that is a major relief)
    • Wireless charging is great and I highly recommend the Samsung $25 one on Amazon
    • Is it worth the price? I would say the cop out phrase "If any phone is worth $1000, iPhone X is"

Question, did you get rid of your pixel 2 XL? What did you think about the size diff? Reason I ask is I had the 2 XL on preorder, went to Verizon to check it out and hated the blue shift and screen quality. Also hated the size, thought it was overly large and the phone itself felt junky...very light weight and had no substance to it.

I really wanted to try android again and I'd only go back on a pixel device, was considering the pixel 2 but thought I was going back in time to chunky bezels.

My burn in got really bad. You could see the whole home button on the screen. So, because I was out of the return period, I called Google customer service and requested a replacement. The replacement was, of course, granted. The device came in a brand new box, so I went ahead and sold it online. I wind up coming out about $80 short after sale.

Observations about the Pixel 2 XL
    • Android Oreo is definitely as good if not better than iOS 11 (at least for the month I had it, not sure about long term usage)
    • The battery life is incredible. It's better than any iPhone I have ever used. Truly remarkable
    • Some of the features Android make me think "Why doesn't Apple have this yet?". The live wallpaper with the earth which updates for weather and time of day is pretty unbelievable.
    • The Pixel 2 XL hardware is fine from a build standpoint. It's not great, it's probably not $800+ great. It's just fine.
    • The services on Android as Google intended are top notch. Google Assistant runs circles around Siri, but I can get GA on iPhone, so that wasn't a must-have on Pixel
    • Google Lens is useless
    • The camera is INCREDIBLE. While it can't do 2x zoom and doesn't do stage lighting, the traditional photos are better than iPhone X's by the slightest of margins
    • The blue shift is a mess. If you rotate the screen at all you get a big flash of blue. If you wake up in the morning and don't have Night Light (Android's Night mode), you're greeted by an almost painful blue screen.
    • The burn in is real and I'm not convinced any amount of software can fix it. The internet experts seem to have gone quiet on the burn-in front, but I can tell you I'm not going to try another Pixel 2 XL
    • The ambient light sensor is either trash OR the software doesn't know what to do with the screen in low light. The screen can never decide how bright to be. I know for a number of people this isn't a big deal as they set the screen to manual brightness, but I don't so it's super disappointing

Conclusion: Pixel 2 XL is the best Android experience from a software and services standpoint. However, the hardware falls well short of the device's high price tag .

Hope this helps. I was as disappointed as can be.

Yeah that pretty much explains why I cancelled my preorder after looking at the demo device multiple times. The hardware is lacking. We all know the software experience on any pixel is the best android experience

I️ said I️ was going with the 8+. I️ really like the Touch ID. I️ like the form factor of the 8+. I️ have a 6S+. So I️ wanted to stay with the form factor.

Well as many of you know I went with the 8 plus. With a daughter in college I couldn’t afford it. But I’m happy

I️ went to Best Buy today. I️ played with both the 8+ and X. I️ am definitely going to get the X. I️ fell in love with it. It felt good in my hands. I️ will have the gestures to get used to but that shouldn’t be a problem.

The notch? Meh not a deal breaker. I️ fell in love with a phone I️ said I wouldn’t get. Damm you APPLE, Damm you to heck!
