I’ll keep this post short and simple. The iPhone X camera array has an IR illuminator. IR stands for infrared, it sees in a different spectrum and is used for almost everything night vision. Yes, FaceID will work in the dark, IR all but guarantees that. Along with the IR illuminator, the screen lights up when you try to unlock it, so your face is illuminated by the screen and the IR illuminator confirms you are a physical 3-dimensional person. In short, again, yes, FaceID will work in the dark.

Also, does it work with the lights off?

Awesome, I’ve seen a lot of sunglasses tests and some work and some don’t. Most do though. But it is funny when they try a pair that doesn’t.

I was a little worried they wouldn’t work with mine since I have the darkest polarized Oakley’s. But fortunately they do. I’d hate having to pull my sunglasses off to use Face ID. Lol.

I think the polarized sunglasses are what will work. Cheap glasses with just dark tint will have issues.

Just kind of weird to me since the polarized lenses is reflective.

Has worked really well for me except when it’s absolutely pitch black.

I find that it works really well in complete darkness. I do have to look directly at the screen in the dark whereas in well lit situations I just look in the display's general direction.
