Re: iPhone X Cases

Little disappointed in RhinoShield CS. Received my new Mod case for the iPhone X and noticed the clear back plate had scratches on it prior to the install. Contacted CS and told them it had scratches and here was the response:

Hello,

Thank you for the photo update.

In regard to the scratches on the Backplate, kindly note the material we use in our MOD is more advanced in that we are able to create a completely BPA free case.

Being BPA free was especially challenging when designing our Backplate. We realized that we had to decide between Impact Protection + Safety and Scratch Resistance.

With BPA being linked to possible developmental issues in young children as well as reproductive toxicity, even though there are no regulatory requirements, we at RhinoShield have been working on offering phone cases that are entirely BPA free. This year, we achieved that goal with our new BPA free material, while maintaining our 11-feet drop protection standard.

If we send another brand new Clear Backplate, it will unfortunately not solution the issue since it is still prone to getting scratched. Alternatively, we would be glad to further assist you in an exchange process for the Backplate to either the Black Marble, White Marble or Carbon Fiber of your choice.

——
Not sure CS understands it came like that, because I realize things will get scratched but I don’t expect it brand new out of the package. Still like the case a lot, but little bummed in how this is handled.

And for the record I've had this case now maybe 7 days and it looks like its been slid across a road with all the tiny scratches on it and I only carry it in my pocket with no keys, etc. If you hate easily scratched cases, I would steer clear of the CLEAR back plate. Not sure if the other ones do the same I have a Camo that I also bought so will see how that holds up.

Re: iPhone X Cases

I'm really not surprised having had a clear PC type case in the past that it scratches like that. My plan with the mod is to probably get the carbon fiber (or maybe the clear and live with it) but when I'm using my Mod case probably 75% of the time it will be in bumper mode anyway.

Well ended up picking up a speck presidio grip from bestbuy since they were 50% off. For $20, it can't be beat.

Nice that's the grip my wife got (candyshell not presidio) in gray/poppy though. That thing is horrible to take off the phone. Fair warning. My Rhinio playproof and crashguard for my 7+ were nowhere near as tough. I literally thought I wouldn't be able to get it off her phone. It's a nice feeling case though, I really like the button feel.

Re: iPhone X Cases

LV finally released cases for the X!

Here’s my Monogram Folio Case (next to my old Monogram Eclipse folio for the plus)

Thanks for the warning! I figured, short of cutting it off, I’d be gentle when removing it It does feel super nice on, and the buttons are definitely nice and tactile. I’ll let everyone know if there’s any issues removing it!

Re: iPhone X Cases

After 10 cases I have come to the conclusion that the leather iPhone X case is the happy medium. It has enough protection yet gives the phone a classy look. Leaves the buttons clicky, plenty of color choices, feels good in the hand and pocket, and has lay on the table security. The only flaw is price. I should have just bought one initially. The bottom cut out also aids in the ship up feature. With cases that have bottom coverage that provides lay on face protection its hard to ship up.

Had to take advantage of those sales on top of the 25% off 3 or more. Really wanted a leather case on the promotion but the saddle brown wasn’t there. Debating on returning the plasma, but in store it looked awesome.

I have several iPhone X cases (so far!) and here are my thoughts. Please note that I prefer a minimalist approach--thin and clear when possible. I place a premium on cases that retain as much as possible the "magic" feel and performance of the X that you get when naked (the iPhone, I mean!). For those of you with an X, you know what I mean!

For iPhone case obsessive-compulsives like me, here you go:

1. The Speck Presidio Clear case it the most protective case I've tried for the X. Very protective, nice and clear--looks nice, but too bulky and loses too much of the magic for my tastes. But if you want good protection, get this one (or the Spigen below) instead of cases like Otterbox because this one looks better.

2. The Spigen Ultra Hybrid (clear) is just a notch below the Presidio in terms of protection, but also looks great. The buttons are more responsive than the Presidio.

3. Tozo's clear case listed on Amazon as: "TOZO for iPhone X Case, Crystal Clear Soft TPU Gel Skin Slim Fit Transparent Flexible Premium Cover"--the case package states "Ultra Thin Perfect"--go figure. This is the sweet spot case for me. Thinner that the two above, covers the whole edge of the X, easy to put on/take off, and looks great with no branding. Magic score is very good.

4. PITAKA Magcase Aramid Fiber (https://www.ipitaka.com/collections/magcase-for-iphone-x). This one feels great. Very thin but the material is supposed to be very protective. I would say, yes, protective for scratches but how far can you drop it without damage? Don't know, don't want to find out. The major flaw (and advantage?) with this one is it doesn't cover all of the X's edge. As you can see in their photos, there are large cut-outs for the buttons--which makes it have the best magic feel for button use. Nice. But there as cut-outs at the top and bottom of the iPhone and that leaves large areas exposed to drops. Go figure. I'm using this one right now, but I'm being extra carful!

5. Peel Super Thin iPhone X case--Black version. Yup, this is about as thin as it gets. Be aware that it's very hard to put on/take off. Although it's not clear, the Black color/version lets the Apple branding show through nicely. Slippery compared to the PITAKA which has a more secure feel. All that said, it covers the whole device and the buttons retain a lot of the magic. The screen performance is all magic, just like the PITAKA, given that they're both so thin. Not likely as protective as the PITAKA due to the PITAKA's fancy "Aramid" material but, then again, it covers more of the edge.

So, FWIW, right now I'm trying to decide between the added protection of the Tozo or the added magic of the PITAKA and Peel. Then, which do I feel more comfortable using--the PITAKA or Peel? Only time will tell...

Re: iPhone X Cases

Man...you get a phone like the X and then you put a massive, gaudy case on it...why even bother with the X at that point.

Apple genuine leather or silicone case, or for extra protection a basic Spigen Liquid Air Armor case. Anything else completely kills the look of the phone. But to each their own :)

Well some people do not want to spend $500+ if it gets dropped and something breaks. That being said all cases kill the look of the phone, so if you really cared about the look you would go naked.
