So, for anyone having this problem, I just had an online chat with an Apple Specialist and here is the response I received:

"I totally can’t wait to start my own pre approval process, but at this time, its not up just yet. Theres this small bug in the system thats not allowing us to get that pre approval done but don’t worry, the tech guys are working on it now. I recommend checking back in, in another 2 hours on that Apple App on the iPhone."

Thanks for sharing this bc I tried again after 1pm eastern time and still nothing. I will keep checking later on and update if I see it go live.

Done! "pre" Pre-ordered/selected/whatever a 64GB Silver. Will go 256 if needed on Thursday if the 64's aren't available.

This is just a pre-approval step. Still have to go through the main "lottery" of getting an actual pre-order done at midnight in a few days. This was just getting the upgrade program stuff pre-approved and ready to go.

Yeah, I get that. Just be nice to have it all picked out and ready to go for Friday morning. Hoping a get a free moment at work and bust out the order like last year.

It still gives a head start so you don't have to fill the form and get credit approval. Saves a lot of time and given that preorders are going to be gone in seconds, it's good we have this option!

Upgrading from 8/8 Plus will depend on if you are eligible to upgrade via the Apple Upgrade Program. You will need to have paid certain % of money before you are eligible. Not sure if that can be done via the app.

If you already paid money beforehand while joining the Upgrade Program, then depending on how much you owe, you could upgrade to X.

Regardless, when you apply, Apple will check for your eligibility whether in the Store app or the website to make sure you can upgrade.

I see. I don’t believe the pre-approval was available for the 8/8 Plus. And yes, this Friday you will be able to change the device model even color based on availability if you wish to. Pre-approval is just a pre-approval, you can edit and change before you order.

I'm pretty sure there was pre-approval for the 8. I'd like to know as well what the process will be like on 10/27 and how to navigate quickest through the app. From the looks of the pre-approval it seems as if u are locked in to whatever choice you made during the pre-approval process.

You are not locked, it says I can change during the order.

You're correct. I see that now. Maybe when we open the app that night it'll say what to do to continue with the preorder.
