Not quite 3 months ago I bought a new iPhoneSE (2020) at BestBuy in Charlottesville, VA. I called support there and they hung up on me. I see they are known more for their brick-and-mortar presence than for their service, especially with regard to talking with a customer about looking at a product they sold and confirming that it is not working correctly.

I also can't see what is the most effective way to ask Apple what I should do.

    Therefore, I am here.

The phone is a Verizon equipped phone. I have not called them yet, but they did not sell it to me. BestBuy offered a 20% lower price. It may prove to be an expensive discount.

Our continuing care community has a TV contract with Comcast and arranges individual provision of internet for residents. My wife uses the WiFi to connect her PC and it is working fine.

My iPhoneSE can't stay connected to the WiFi long enough finish a quick Ookla speed test, even with the phone 5' from the gateway router.

I'm open to suggestions for what I should try next.

    thanks

Have you tried “Forget this network” in settings and then rejoining it?

Just to clarify, was it Best Buy Support or Apple Support that hung up on you?

Just in case, did you purchase Apple Care Plus for the device?

From what I understand is your are on a community Wi-Fi? I had that in college and when the service was busy, all the time, my iPhone would boot me from the wifi and onto LTE because of the better signal. Check your points of connection. If your signal is weak your iPhone is trying to get you a better signal for a better experience and battery saving measure.

Verizon support would gladly help you, even if you didn't buy the phone from them. But I would call Support. If necessary, they could put you through to an Apple tech specialist. Be sure to reboot your wifi modem/router.

For consideration, the iOS 14.0.1 update "Fixes an issue that could prevent your iPhone from connecting to Wi-Fi networks".

The problem in iOS 14.0 may or may not be related to the problem explained above. Thus agree with recommendations above to contact Apple Support as they can run diagnostics to help potentially narrow down the problem, and perhaps rule in or out iOS 14.0 being a factor for the WiFi connectivity problem.
