They're both chamfered. It's the cut of the edges, but the polished edges on the 5s look nicer to me. Gives it more pop.

I also prefer the shiny edges of the 5s. The matte edges don't look bad at all, the shiny just pops imo.

The matt edges make the SE looks slightly thinner and smaller. Polished edges give the 5S a sharp & luxury look.

the machined/polished look was nicer (like on my 5)... but not a big deal. I'll take the performance and battery of the SE as a trade-off

The matt edges makes sense to me, and I don't mind them, but the case I'm using hides this by and large, so its a non-issue for me.
