Does it matter which team you pick in Pokemon Go?

Instinct, Mystic or Valor are the three choices when you get the point where you need to pick a team. Is one better than the other? Does it even matter which you pick?

I don't think so, Mystic is the most popular, followed by Instict and Valor which are neck and neck.
