    Welcome to iMore! That doesn't sound right. Free apps are free, plain and simple. That being said, Apple does require that you have a valid credit card on file, but it doesn't mean they are going to charge you for apps.

    You will not be charged for any free app. But they do require a payment method to be in place before you can download anything.
