I been trying for a week to use the Ookla Speedtest App on my iPhone 6 Plus, my mothers iPhone 5c and my daughters iPhone 5s and they all say Network communication issues..

My son is on T-Mobile using a iPhone 6 no issues...

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue with the Ookla Speedtest app on their AT&T service?

I was thinking If it was AT&T is it because of the FCC ruling? I was on the Grandfathered plan a few months back...

I have tested other Speedtest apps and they work fine.

I just downloaded and tested. The app works on Wi-Fi but not on AT&T cellular network. (iPhone 6 Plus)

My iPhone 5 is on the AT&T network and I get the message, "Network Communication Issues". Unfortunately I also use AT&T Uverse for home internet and get the same message when using Wi-Fi as well. My iPad Air on the other hand gets the message only when I'm on Wi-Fi, if I turn on cellular data via T-Mobile, it works. So it seems to me that AT&T is up to something and it's no good!

The test does use a lot of data.

I saw on Android Central where some of them have this issue. Do you use a proxy? VPN,? Or anything like ad block?

So it's definitely AT&T locked phones. I have AT&T, plus UVerse for cable/Internet. On my iPhone 6 (locked to AT&T) I get the network communications issue. However, when I use my unlocked HTC One M9 I bought from HTC it works perfectly fine.

That makes me even more confident AT&T is blocking it on their phones. No idea why they would though.

Has anyone called AT&T customer service and asked about this?

I don't have AT&T. And I hate frontier customer service.

FWIW I just switched from TMO to AT&T today and brought my Verizon iPhone 6 Plus (it was the only model I could get at launch) and Speed Test doesn't work for me either. If I'm on WiFi and open the app and then disable wifi it works but if I start the app with only LTE I get the network communication error. So this is not a issue with their phones, perhaps an AP

Well I am using three Unlocked T-Mobile phones on AT&T and this sort of proves my Theory unless Ookla is somehow blocking it but I was thinking someone at AT&T was pissed as I am sure a majority of the Grandfathered plans from people complaining about their speeds used the Ookla App to monitor their throttling...

What was your theory? Reading these comments, I don't see a pattern or theory. Some work on AT&T and some don't.

You didn't want to call your carrier. Could you contact Ookla and see if they know anything?

I went to the "provide feedback" section of the app, and there is a thread marked "known issue" in red. So Ookla knows about it.
    Ledsteplin and phreddyl like this.
