I've been having issues with iOS8 native calendar. Sometimes it shows my event in GMT and sometimes it doesn't even sync with my web calendar. I don't have these issues on any other devices so I'm pretty sure it's my iPhone calendar.

What alternative calendar app would you recommend? (I'm syncing with both Google and Outlook.com)

I use both Calendars 5 by Readdle and Fantastical 2. They are both great. They're a little different, but do basically the same thing.

Do I need to buy the app for MAC in order to have it synced or the stock App will read whatever I input into the Fantastical iPhone app?

Also can I invite people to meetings, events with them just having the stock app or will they also have to have the Fantastical app in order to sync all events, invites etc.

Nope. I use the stock calendar on my Mac and fantastical on my phone.
